   Ensure you’ve entered your Fotolia account credentials in the settings page. The plugin will confirm your login details by tell you how many credits are in your account.

4. The search results aren’t photos I want to use. How do I find other photos?

   If the search results aren’t what you’re after in a photo, try removing the tags and adding new tags that describe the photo you’re seeking. You can always restore the tags you want to use after you’ve inserted the photo.

5. How much can I earn with the affiliate links?

   That depends on the size of your blog’s readership, the nature of the audience and how well you choose the photos. Try experimenting with different styles of photos and different captions to see which works best for you. And keep creating quality content to attract as many readers as you can.

6. Do I have to buy the photos?

   Yes, until your affiliate revenue covers the cost of the photos you use, you’ll need to buy them. Prices for web-sized photos start at just $1 each.

7. How do I get my affiliate earnings?

   Fotolia will pay you directly. They can pay by PayPal and MoneyBookers. For more details, see the FAQ page at Fotolia.

Step 1 – Install and configure the plugin

Step 2 – Setup an account with Fotolia

If you don’t already have an account, register at Fotolia here. Once you have your account, setup the login and password in the configuration so the plugin can buy and download photos with your account.

Step 3 – Create a normal blog post

After the plugin is installed and configured, the Microstock Photo module will appear below the edit window for each post and page of your blog.

Write your blog post as normal. Add tags to the post using relevant keywords. The plugin will automatically search for photos which match the tags you insert.

If you don’t see appropriate photos, try using different tags until you find photos you like. You can always switch back to the tags you want to use once you’ve inserted the photo.

Step 4 – Click the Photo you Want

Once the search results appear and you see a photo you want to use, simply click it. The plugin will guide you through buying the photo and automatically download it to your Media Manager and insert it into your blog post.

You can choose the size and position of the photo, and you can use it as many times as you like from your Media Manager.

Step 5 – Earn Money from Referral Links (optional)

If you enable the affiliate program in the plugin configuration, your photos become links back to Fotolia with your affiliate code. Whenever someone clicks those links and registers a new Fotolia account, they become your affiliate. For the next three years, any time they buy a photo you earn a commission on your Fotolia. You can use these commissions to buy more photos and received a payout once your account reaches $50. See the Fotolia Affiliate Program page for more details and the official agreement.

The plugin automatically configures the affiliate links for you using your login name. If you want to use a different account for the affiliate program, you can easily configure that too.

Automatic Installation

For WordPress version 2.7 or later you can install the Microstock Photo Plugin automatically from your WordPress interface. Simply navigate to the Plugins menu and select Add New.  Then search for “microstock photo” in the search box.

When the results appear, click the Install link in the Actions column for WordPress to automatically install the latest version of the plugin.

Manual Installation

Download the plugin from WordPress.org. Extract the files from the ZIP archive and upload them to your server in the wp-content/plugins directory.

Navigate to the Plugins page of WordPress and Activate the plugin.

Configuration

Once installed, find the Microstock Photo button below the Settings menu in WordPress. Click the button to configure the plugin.

You need to enter your Fotolia login name and password so the plugin can access Fotolia with your account.  Your account credentials are passed directly to Fotolia so they’re as safe. Once you save your settings you’ll see a welcome message with your account balance confirming the plugin successfully logged in with your account.

You have various options to control the behavior of the caption and whether the photos use affiliate links or not. Configure these to your preference and don’t forget to save your changes.
